Since Joel-Peter Witkin says he uses unclaimed bodies from a Mexican morgue, I will not coment on the aesthetics of his work due to issues of consent of his subjects. It is interesting to note if he tried to do this in America, he would be jailed, the morgue would pay millions in restitution, and the pictures would be ordered destroyed.

very interesting "death"
it was very interesting..... in my opnion was not morbid , was done in good taste in fact glassman look so much at peace he looked very much alive. Thanks for sharing...

Joel Peter Witkn
From what I have read, he did use real cadavers as his subjects (both animal and human) it doesn't go into detail of where he got the latest subjects but does say in Mexico is where he started. He is still alive and doing showings too.
